The Alfred Shrubb Indoor Sprint Track
This indoor straight is officially called "The Alfred Shrubb Indoor Sprint Track" but is commonly known as "The Tube". It is 80m long but there is only about 70m of clear track as there is a pit with a proper LJ board and painted TJ take-off positions at one end. There is also a permanent PV box and facilities for HJ and SP. Flat races are usually held over 50m or 55m for hurdles due to the lack of runoff space. A plaque to mark the naming of the indoor track was unveiled on 11th Jan 1990 but it is thought the track existed before then. Further details of the facilities here can be found under the entry for the adjacent outdoor track.
