Saffron Lane Stadium
The track opened as a synthetic 'En-Tout-Cas' one on 6 May 1967 and was the first track of its type in England. Apparently it was a thin surface of rubberised crumbs as compared to the denser tartan material which had more bounce to it. The surface has obviously been upgraded since then. The complex includes a cycle velodrome which is next to the track, gym, all-weather and grass football pitches and fitness circuits.
