Wilson Playing Fields Track
The original cinder track was believed to have been built in the early 1970s and apparently had eight "narrow" lanes so the track may possibly be only 6 or 7 proper lanes. It was upgraded to synthetic in 2004 at a cost of ?460K with the largest proportion of the funding, ?231.5K, coming from the East Lancashire Partership's Regional Park Project. The track was officially opened by the high jumper Susan Jones on 30th Jun 2004. The main contractors were GK Thorntons. The track will be managed jointly by the Leisure in Hyndburn Trust, Hyndburn AC and the Borough Council who will take responsibility for the maintenance of the facility. The track is just east of the A680 in the north of town.
