Stanley Park Athletics Arena
The track was originally cinder and built in the 1960s. It was upgraded to synthetic in 1987 with floodlights and a pavilion. In May 2000, the track was patched, cleaned, resprayed and remarked. In addition, the throwing areas were relaid and the landing area around the PV bed was enlarged for safety reasons. A new throwing cage is due to be installed later in the year. It has had to be specially designed to cope with the strong winds that are sometimes experienced here as it is near the coast. The photos are courtesy of Blackpool & Fylde AC.
