The track was officially opened on 3rd May 1987 by Tessa Sanderson although it was completed in late 1986. Prior this the track area was just a grass field. The adjacent Waltham Forest Pool building was opened on 7th May 1966. There used to be a stand near the finish line but this has been removed. In 2000 the track appeared to be quite worn but perfectly usable. It was however pressure washed and relined by White Line Services in early April 2001 which has made a fantastic difference. The area around the 110mH start was resurfaced in June 2001. New PV equipment was bought in 2003.
