Barn Elms Athletics Track
The track was originally cinder and was upgraded to a Mondo Sportflex Super X Classic synthetic surface in December 1993 but was probably not used for a meeting until 1994. There are no dedicated track staff and users were supposed to buy tickets from the pay & display machine for the tennis courts next to the car park but it is not clear whether this is still the case. The fields on which track is located are managed by Richmond-upon-Thames Borough and used to be called Barn Elms Playing Fields. Somewhat confusingly, the adjacent Barn Elms Sports Centre is run by Wandsworth Borough. Races often start at 200m point so that the stand is on the 'home' straight. There is a joint plan of Richmond and Wandsworth Councils to develop the whole site but it has still to be decided whether the track facilities will be upgraded. The steeplechase barriers including the water jump were however upgraded to height adjustable.by 2002.
