Paddington Recreation Ground Athletics Track
A cycle track was built in 1888 next to the location of the current track which became a combined cycle and running track by at least 1900 and lasted until 1987 when they were grassed over. The current track was completed in October 1988 and originally had a Spurtan BS surface. It was resurfaced in Nov 1998. There is an all-weather football/hockey pitch in the infield and another all-weather pitch next to the track which means that no long throws are possible. There has been some talk of getting the track fully floodlit but there have been objections from the local residents so this is unlikely at present. A plaque on the side of the pavilion facing the old cinder track was unveiled by Roger Bannister on 10th September 2000 to commemorate the fact that he used to train on the track.
