Bannister Stadium
The track was originally cinder and opened sometime around the end of August/beginning of September 1967. The jump runways had synthetic surfaces from about 1980 and the synthetic track became available to train on from 4th July 1986. The original track surface was Spurtan BV and it had 7 lanes all round. The track and adjacent grass pitches are collectively known as Bannister Sports Centre although the track itself is commonly known as Bannister Stadium. Leisure Connection took over the running of the track from the council in April 2002. In May 2002 work started on upgrading the track to 8 lanes all round and revamping the field event facilities and floodlights and was completed in October 2002. The layout of the original track is here.
