National Indoor Athletics Centre
The track cost ?7M to build and was funded with the aid of a ?5.6M grant from the Sports Council for Wales' SPORTLOT Fund. The first meeting took place here on 23rd January 2000 and the track was officially opened on 27th January 2000 by Colin Jackson, Jamie Baulch and the Mayor of Cardiff. The first use of the track was however on 22nd January when there was an elite U17 & U15 Welsh squad training session. It has 4 complete lanes with an 8 lane 60m straight and also a 6 lane 120m straight which finishes outside the main arena. The track surface is Mondo Sportflex Super X Classic and it has hydraulic bends. There are also physiotherapy rooms and sports science labs. It is often referred to by the abbreviation NIAC. The track is adjacent to an outdoor one. Two of the track pictures are courtesy of Nigel Hetherington of the Athletics Association of Wales (AAW).
