Cannock Sports Stadium
The track was officially opened as a synthetic one on 20th Sept 1986 by Steve Cram. It cost ?300,000 and originally had a Chevron surface. It is thought that the track was originally cinder and may have been built in 1951 as the stadium used to be called Festival Stadium where Festival refers to the Festival of Britain of 1951. The report in AW (8th Nov 1986) mentions the track being called Festival Stadium so although an advert for a meeting in Sept 1987 in AW a month beforehand mentions Cannock Stadium. Unusally the covered stand is situated at the 100m start rather than nearer the finish. The infield is a football pitch used by Brocton FC. The stadium has had a ?0.5 million revamp which is thought have included resurfacing of the track and extension of the Stadium building to include a function suite and improved changing rooms.
