County Running Track
The track was originally a 7 lane all-round cinder one and was built in about 1969. It is on the grounds of Sir Thomas Picton School and is managed from the adjacent Haverfordwest Sports Centre when the School is not open. Welsh League and open meetings were held here in the 1970s & 80s and it was the venue of a 18.93m SP by Venissa Head which is in the UK all-time lists. It had not been very well looked after during the 1990s but the host club campaigned for an all-weather facility as the next nearest synthetic track (Carmarthen) is 30 miles away. Work started in 2003 on resurfacing the track as a 6 lane porous synthetic with an 8 lane home straight. The main contractor was Heydour Contract Services Ltd. with consultancy from Sportslabs of Glasgow. The track was lined by June 2004 and is believed to have opened later in 2004.
