The track was originally cinder and built with funding from the King George V Memorial Fund and was opened on 6th June 1952. It was upgraded to synthetic and was re-opened in September 1987 by Geoff Capes. Stockport Harriers & AC manage the track on behalf of the local authority. There is a clubhouse at the track.
