The track was originally built as a synthetic one in 1989 with a Spurtan BS surface. The track but not the runways was resurfaced in 1998. The runways were resurfaced in 2002. All the long throws are outside the track and are floodlit but the DT/HT sector is uphill. The track is run by the local authority - Huntingdonshire District Council.
